Youth With A Mission
As we pulled into the mission base, it was more humble than i expected. There is tarps on almost every roof and termite holes large enough to be used for extra storage space. But we're greeted joyfully and the spirit of the base is good. Time to rest. We spent the next 3 days as jet-lag zombies, Going for a couple walks and getting terribly lost. So i bought a map after hours of wandering. On monday i did my first repair, a washing machine needed a new belt. It seems like a small thing until you're the one with no clean clothes. i also fixed a roof that was bare of roofing for about 12 square feet, which calculates into LOTS and LOTS of water coming into the house! Some people laughed at us when we told them that we were going on a mission trip to Hawaii. But having a beach 2 miles away doesn't make life easy at all. YWAM is pretty much a missionary school. This particular base puts out more long term missionaries than any other. So right now, we're missionaries to missionaries. i didn't know there was such a thing 'till i became one.

Hey, Congrats on making it there safe and sound. Glad to hear all is well. Micah, Brett and family.
So good to hear from you and find your new blog. I have bookmarked it right next to all of my favorite blogs that I check daily and will recommend it to all my friends.
We are really proud of you guys and want to support you in every way we can. You are becoming part of our family whether you like it or not. Keep in touch.
wow! missionaries are needed EVERYWHERE. you are doing yet another great work. yay God!
What an amazing experience...I'm so excited for you!
I know someone who's enrolled in the school of photography at the base--her name is Vanessa and she had the same experience you did with the bankrupt airline and trying to get another flight. Maybe you'll meet her while you're there.
I love your comment about being missionaries to missionaries...on my last couple of trips to work at God's Katrina Kitchen, God made it clear that my primary job was to serve the long-term staff there in whatever way I could, even if it was just listening to them tell their stories. That's a very cool place to be...getting to be the hands and feet of Jesus to people who exemplify that in their daily lives.
I'm praying for all of you...looking forward to hearing more of your story.
Dena :-)
